Located in the center of the Netherlands, castle ‘De Haar’ is one of the largest castles of the country. Re-built from a medieval ruin around 1900, it represents the ultimate dream of medieval grandeur. With it’s towers, the moat and drawbridge it’s a fairytale. The interiour is a gorgeous mix of early 20th century luxury and neo-gothic styling, with an unbelievable amount of detail in the hand-crafted sculptures, woodwork and ceilings. The surrounding gardens are a mix of styles, with formal gardens, flowers, a maze, lakes and a forest.
I started my first job at this place back in 2006, selling tickets and giving guided tours. After moving through different functions during my school and university years, I became a volunteer guide in 2015. Unfortionately, taking photo’s inside is not allowed, but this category will show this gorgeous place from the gardens in all it’s glory through the seasons.
